Cheapest place to get 5-gallon buckets?
My supply of free 5-gallon buckets from local donut shops seems to be drying up, and I really don't like paying $5 each at Walmart. The buckets don't necessarily have to be food-grade since I'm vacuum-sealing all my food in mylar bags, but I'd like to pay less than $5 per bucket if I can't get them free. Any suggestions?

Restaurants. Sometimes they smell like pickles though.

Most building renovation or construction sites will have free buckets.
Latex paint and sheetrock taping "mud buckets" are easy to clean and plentiful,......... most get tossed in the dumpster. |

Use craigslist, I found a ton of them with lids for $1.

Firehouse Subs, if you have them.
$2 - and they're red! I bought one every time I ate lunch there. Proceeds go to Fire / EMS crews, I believe. |

Baytec containers you can also get gamma seal lids from them dirt cheap.
If you order by the dozen you can get a bucket and gamma seal lid for $10 from them. http://www.bayteccontainers.com/ |

I get mine from US Plastic. Nice new buckets, food grade, delivered.

I've not needed to buy any yet this year, but last year, I was buying them from Home Depot. Fairly cheap, bright orange, and great for storing mylar bags of "stuff."

Re: Cheapest place to get 5-gallon buckets?
We got a lot of 4-5 gallon pales with and without lids from Costco.
The supply started drying up when they switched some of the ingredients to smaller/lighter buckets. If you can get 5 gallon buckets from local bakeries or food shops I'd advise getting on it. Due to injuries I believe the 5 gallon bucket of ingredients will go the way of the 100 pound bag. I stopped seeing those in the mid 90's. |
